Training Link, Forms, Communication, AT&T

Dear friends,

At Ghostlight, we love conversation. One of the great things about being present together at camp is how much face-to-face communication we get to engage in, with staff and with campers. We also have some tools that help us communicate when we're not together, such as Slack, to keep camp running smoothly. This week, we're highlighting a few ways we communicate throughout the summer. There's also an important note about cell sevice at camp, particularly related to AT&T.

In addition, see below for an updated link to our pre-camp training modules and a staff forms check-in. One of your forms is a photo upload — please complete this ASAP to assist us in sharing staff announcements with our campers!

Please continue to reach out with any questions coming up — we love hearing from you! We also invite you to follow along with us on Instagram if you would like to see some photos and videos from camp!

Your friends,

Alexa & the Ghostlight Team

πŸ—£οΈ Communication at Camp

Communication at camp is crucial, and it's important that we share information succinctly and effectively, especially when challenges arise like rainy day location changes. At Ghostlight, we use several methods of communication to ensure everyone is in the loop.

  1. πŸ“Œ Posted Schedules —As campers are not allowed to bring phones or other WiFi-enabled devices to camp, the daily schedule is posted each morning throughout camp. Changes to the schedule will be shared during announcements after meals.

  2.  Slack  — see below!

  3. πŸ‘₯ Face-To-Face — Nothing beats the sharing of information face-to-face. At camp, counselors and non-cabin staff will each have a daily meeting to check in and share announcements. Our leadership team will also share information by traveling around to each location, especially in urgent or emergency situations.

Slack

During the summer, staff will use the app Slack as a way to communicate and stay organized. Some channels will include the full staff while some will be for specific staff groups — for example, counselors will have their own channel and each show will have a channel to share rehearsal reports, production meeting notes, and more. You do not need to regularly check Slack before arriving at camp!

Slack accounts for returning staff (2023-present) have been reactivated. New staff, or returning staff who have not worked at camp since 2022 or prior, please complete the Slack module in the pre-camp training to learn more and join.

πŸ“± Cell Service at Camp

As staff members, we utilize technology over the summer to communicate with each other. Many of us also enjoy staying connected with friends and family outside of camp, though we aim to stay as unplugged as possible while present with campers.

A quick (but important) note about cell phone service: AT&T service is unfortunately very limited at Mountain Lake Park. If you use AT&T, your phone may not receive calls or texts if not connected to WiFi. There are several WiFi networks around camp, and we will share passwords and help all staff get connected during training. However, there are some buildings that may not reach the WiFi.

If you use AT&T and want to explore additional coverage options for the summer, you can consider a mobile hotspot from another provider, like this one from Verizon.

We apologize for any inconvenience here, and please let us know if you have any questions — we will do our best to assist in finding a solution.
