Our Theater Program Makes Your Camper's Growth Our Mission, With Fun at the Core
When looking for a theater camp for your child, you want to find a program that will not only teach them about theater but also help them grow as a person. You want a camp that is going to challenge them, push them outside of their comfort zone, and help them find their passions. Ghostlight Theater Camp is that program.
We are unique because of our intentionality. Everything, from our dining to our activities, is chosen with care. We ask ourselves two simple questions when making decisions about camp-
"What do we want campers to take from this experience?" and "How will we help them do that?"
The answer to the first question is life skills they can use even if theater and acting aren't what they choose in the future. From communication to problem-solving, campers learn things at camp that transfer to the rest of their year. How we get there can be anything from rehearsal and production to challenging adventure trips or simply making time to connect with mentors and peers. No matter what we choose, fun is at the core.
Intentionality Sets Us Apart
Here are some examples of how we intentionally design our program to benefit our campers:
Communication Skills- The structure of our program means that even in the fast-paced world of camp, there is always time to listen. Directors, designers, counselors, and teachers all train with us on how to structure the activity periods with space allowed for the unexpected. Our goal isn't a product or test score but rather an experience. By encouraging campers to speak to their needs and affirming this, we are training campers to trust in their ability to communicate with family and friends back home and to trust in their value as a listener.
Collaboration- Every camper has an idea for the presentation they want to make during evening activities on Elective Night. To make this happen, they must work together to hear each other’s ideas, choose how to present them, and rehearse their performance, all within their final class! This particular moment at camp, which yearly ranks as a favorite of our entire community, requires campers to problem-solve to make their vision a reality while also teaching the importance of working together as a team.
Fun- While all of these activities incorporate essential life skills, they would not be as effective if the campers were not having fun! We believe that learning should be enjoyable so that campers are more likely to retain the information and apply it in the future.
