Dear Friends,
Happy June — the month of camp starting is here! Each summer, our new campers write a short introductory message that we share with their cabin counselors. We ask campers to share a bit about themselves and about their hopes for the summer — I wanted to share just a few of those hopes with you:
This summer, I hope to grow my confidence in my theatrical abilities and to create new bonds with people who share a common interest.
I love the community that theatre brings, and I hope that Ghostlight will be a place where I find that community and belonging.
I am VERY excited to join you this summer! I also can't wait to be able to do what I love with new faces, and new friends. To me musical theatre isn't just about the performing but it's also about the memories and friendships you build along the way, and the best part is watching how much you and your castmates have grown along the way!
I am hoping to make like-minded friends and prove to myself that I am capable of doing anything I put my mind to. I am a little nervous about being away from home, but I know I’ll have fun!
As we approach the last few weeks until staff training begins, I invite you to think about these hopes our campers have shared and how we can all work together to make them happen. I can't wait to hear all of your ideas during staff training!
This email includes a grab bag of information — staff housing, camp dance themes, and the Tony Awards!
Your friends,
Alexa & the Ghostlight Team
🛏️ Staff Housing & Packing
As a reminder, you can find our staff packing list attached to this email. Please bring sheets, blankets/comforter, and pillows with you. Bedding can be provided for international staff. You're also welcome to ship bedding to camp to save on packing space. Our camp address is 7 Camp Eastwood Circle, Oakland, ME 04963. Please ship packages to arrive no earlier than 6/16.
🪩 Dance Themes
Each evening, our campers participate in an Evening Activity led by our Activities and Trips Coordinator, Liz! Each session, there will be a camp dance, and we're excited to share the themes with you in case you'd like to bring any costume items. Dances at Ghostlight are fun and low-key — there's no pressure to wear a certain thing, purchase costume items/accessories, or, for campers, invite someone to the dance. They're all about being together for a festive evening!
Session 1: Spooky Rodeo
Session 2: Disco Fairy Tales
🏆 Tony Time with Zack
We always have some rainy days during the summer, and one of our campers' favorite rainy day activities is "Tony Time with Zack." Zack gathers the campers in the lounge (the top floor of the office building) and shows them some favorite performances* from the Tony Awards! The 2025 Tony Awards are coming up on June 8, and Zack would like to invite you to join him on Slack for some games!
Not yet on Slack? Head on over to our Pre-Camp Staff Training modules to join!
Don't know anything about the Tony Awards? No worries — the games will be open to all, and Zack will be thrilled to share more with you!
* Here's a few of Zack's favorites — send him an email to share yours, if you have any!
