May 22nd | COVID Protocols and Camp Safety
Our primary goal, each summer, is to keep your campers safe. We continue to monitor developments of the COVID-19 virus through the CDC, ACA, and ongoing conversations with our consulting physician. We are confident in our ability to keep campers safe at camp and to mitigate COVID-19's impact on our summer as we grow closer to our normal camp operations. Our strategies include prevention and response plans, including pre-camp strategies that begin with you, our camp families.
1. Pre-Camp Expectations for Campers and Staff:
Beginning one week before camp, we expect campers to make abundantly cautious choices:
- Avoid unnecessary contacts and gatherings.
- Wash your hands often.
- Wear a mask indoors, on all public transportation, and on airplanes.
- Dine at home or outside.
2. Pre-Camp and Arrival Day COVID-19 Testing (required for all campers, including those who recently recovered from COVID-19):
- All campers are required to take an antigen test 2-days prior to arrival at camp. Please make sure to purchase your camper’s at-home antigen test (online or at your pharmacy) well in advance to avoid any supply issues. Results will be uploaded to the Family Dashboard.
- In addition to the test above, first session campers traveling on our charter bus or van must take a second test at home before meeting the bus/van.
- Campers who arrive at the Portland Jetport and those who are dropped off at camp by their family will take a rapid antigen test upon arrival.
3. Testing During Camp:
- We will test symptomatic campers and staff members during camp.
- Staff members may be required to participate in surveillance testing throughout the summer.
4. What if my Camper Tests Positive?
- We will encourage you to pick up your camper within 24 hours so they can isolate and/or recover more comfortably away from camp. If picking up your camper is not possible, we will have the capacity to quarantine COVID-positive campers at camp. Quarantine will be for a minimum of 5 full days (Day 0 = positive test) during the likely “Infectious Period.”
- Assuming symptoms have resolved and your camper is fever-free, they can return to camp and activities on Day 6 (Day 0 = positive test), with "reintegration strategies" in place to prevent asymptomatic spread, but to allow participation in classes, rehearsals, activities.
- First session campers who test positive upon arrival or during camp may choose to leave for the remainder of the session and return for the entirety of our second session at no additional cost.
More information on testing procedures will be sent to you via email and USPS closer to arrival day. You can learn more about our detailed COVID Protocols on our website and please reach out to Lesley Levy with any questions or concerns.
