Dear Friends,
Greetings from camp! Our leadership team and dining team are here getting ready for the summer, and we can't wait to welcome you to camp soon. In this last Staff Weekly Call, we're sharing some reminders and some information about time off at camp in the Waterville area, as well as a brief note from Chris.
You'll receive an additional travel confirmation email from us before your arrival, and you can reach out any time this week with lingering questions you have before traveling to Ghostlight. We look forward to seeing you soon for a summer of joy, creativity, gratitude, and community, and we'll look forward to seeing our Session 2 staff in a few more weeks!
Your friends,
Alexa & the Ghostlight Team
✈️ Reminders!
- Remember to pack any devices you'd like at camp this summer and their chargers as well as any medication you take.
- We're expecting a rainy week here at camp, and the ground can sometimes get a bit muddy after big storms. We recommend bringing clothes and shoes that don't mind a damp day.
- Days at camp can be warm and evenings can be cool — we recommend packing for all types of weather. Many of us find ourselves doing a midday costume change on days with a range of weather!
🏞️ Time Off at Camp
- During staff training, we'll talk about full days off throughout the summer and additional time off.
- Time off is a great way to recharge, connect by phone with friends and family outside camp, do personal errands, and have fun with fellow staff members.
- Here’s a few favorite spots near camp, as well as some locations to pick up anything you might need throughout the summer.
A Note from Chris
Co-director Chris Murrah shared this note with our Ghostlight families this week. Chris will be joining us towards the end of staff training and will be at camp for many of the special days this summer, such as arrival days and show days. We'll look forward to being in touch with Chris even in the times they aren't physically with us at camp and wanted to share Chris' note with you:
I’ve recently accepted the role of Associate Chair of Acting at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) here in Georgia. After joining the SCAD community as a communication coach this past August, I was honored to be invited to take on this new position. While the role will become full-time in the fall, it requires me to be in Savannah for parts of the summer to support our students and faculty, some of whom are also part of the Ghostlight family. Because of this, I will not be able to be at camp every day this summer as I have in the past.
Now, because you all know me well, I would like to leave you with a final thought: As we count down to Session One, I’ve been reflecting on what Tony-winning director Sam Pinkleton said right after winning his award this year for Oh Mary!:
“Maybe if you actually just can take a deep breath and be yourself, the best stuff happens."
I'm quite sad not to be in Maine every day of the season this year. I will miss seeing all the small moments that lead to the growth in our campers, the growth that has kept me coming back to camp these 17 summers. But, Sam's sentiment is my hope for them and all of us this summer: that we may become more fully ourselves, that the best things may happen.
I can’t wait to see you soon,
Chris
