April 18th | 2023 Leadership & The ACA
Dear First name,
You may have noticed we skipped a week in our Pre-Camp Weekly Call! Our apologies. The truth is, we were in Westport, CT hosting our first-ever Spring Camp! Eighteen campers joined us throughout the week for summer show previews, guest artist classes, and plenty of improv and theater games. Thank you to Cara Leggio, Sam Wheeler, and Gillian Gold who were all on hand to support. Gillian was an all-in-one counselor, activities planner, and acting coach!
Meet the 2023 Leadership Team
Our summer staff is a community. We come together each summer to change the lives of our campers, sending them home more confident, self-expressive, and independent. Within this staff community, different teams serve various aspects of the camp program. A member of our leadership staff supports each team; they are there to answer questions, provide additional support when needed, and offer feedback and encouragement throughout the summer. We will learn more about how our teams operate at camp as part of our staff training in June!

What is the American Camp Association?
Ghostlight Theater Camp is a proud member of the American Camp Association or ACA. We are accountable for over 150 standards of operation. These standards cover everything at camp, from administration to programming. Each year we review these standards and check our policies and procedures to ensure we are the best camp we can be.
The good news for you is that most of this happens behind the scenes. Staff and campers are meant to be the beneficiaries of these standards. However, by reading the Staff Handbook, engaging with leadership during training and throughout camp, and providing feedback on your experiences, you help us live up to our expectations for Ghostlight and our impact on our campers' lives.

Meeting the Standards
Section 1 of the current ACA Standards contains the Core Standards. These set out expectations of a camp's mission and measurable outcomes for campers. This section was significantly overhauled in 2019 to better address the growing needs of campers' mental health and their pressures at school and in their communities.
Ghostlight has a clear mission and goals for our campers. These can be found in our Staff Handbook. In short, our goal is to send campers home more confident, self-expressive, and independent. We work toward this mission in our classes, rehearsals, and activities by always leading with inclusivity and curiosity.
You can learn more about the many ACA Standards HERE if you like, and we ask that you take a moment to read the About Camp section in the Staff Handbook, linked above.
